The Federal Skilled Trades program is a federal immigration program managed by the Express Entry system that offers potential immigrants who are qualified in a skilled trade the opportunity to become permanent residents of Canada quickly. Federal Skilled Trades Program Eligibility
- Applicant must have at least two years of full-time work experience or the equivalent in part-time work experience in the skilled trade during the five previous years.
- Candidate must meet the required language levels for each language ability such as reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The proof is required for language proficiency in English or French language from a language testing organization and minimum results are Canadian language benchmark CLB 4 for reading and writing and (CLB) 5 for speaking and listening.
- Must able to demonstrate that the skills and experience gained cover the essential duties of the occupation and have a full-time offer of employment in that skilled trade for a period of at least one year from up to two Canadian employers.
- Regarding education, there is no education requirement to apply for this program however for a better chance a foreign high school or post-secondary diploma or Canadian high school diploma is best.
FST Application Procedure
After meeting all the requirements, Candidates can submit an Express Entry profile to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Only submitting an express entry profile does not guarantee a candidate will receive Canadian permanent residence, a candidate is assigned a CRS score and be considered in future Express Entry draws for Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence.

- Language Proficiency Test – All candidates must provide results from an approved language test within the previous two years.
